Havering College of Further and Higher Education is a large college situated on two sites in the East London Borough of Havering, bordering the county of Essex, 30 minutes from the centre of London.
Besides three COVES - Centres of Vocational Excellence - in Electrical Installation, Finance and Management, and Motor Vehicle & Engineering, and being one of only four flagship L'Oreal Salons in the UK, the college offers an exclusive learning experience in a vibrant multi-cultural environment. STUDENT ACCOMMODATION & WELFARE SERVICE
Havering College highly recommends that you arrange your accommodation before arriving in the UK. Although the college does not currently have halls of residence, the College Accommodation Officer will help in placing you in college accommodation, finding you a suitable place to live or helping you with any particular needs you may have. Whether you want to know about extending your visas, how to register with a doctor or look for emergency medical facilities, how and where to buy travel tickets, or the location of places of worship in the area, Threshold, Student Services and our International Officer will be able to assist.
Facilities
NURSERY- PLAYGROUP FACILITIES
At the Ardleigh Green campus, we offer nursery and playgroup facilities for the children of enrolled students. Fully qualified staff will help your children to adjust to their new environment, and make sure they are safe, happy and stimulated, developing emotionally and intellectually. We cater for children from 3 months to 5 years.
REFECTORY, REFRESHMENTS/SHOPS
The college sites offer a wide range of places to eat. The main refectory caters for around 150 people, offering a range of tasty foods, including sandwiches, burgers and pasta. The bistro has a quieter atmosphere and seats about 35 people, serving Fair Trade produce. Cafeterias and vending outlets are also available.
LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE and IT Centres
Each site has a Learning Resources Centre (LRC), with a wide range of stock including books, journals, DVDs, videos, CD-Roms and other media, to support your learning and recreational needs. There are computers with Internet access, a full range of general software, online information resources, printers and scanners, and a photocopier. Well-qualified and friendly staff will be happy to help you.
COMMON ROOM
There is a common room on all sites where students can relax between classes. All are equipped with vending machines, photocopier and pool table, and are a base for a wide range of activities and events organised by our Student Services department.
BEAUTY SALON
At the Ardleigh Green campus, our Hair and Beauty Salon has been awarded L’Oreal Professional Flagship status. It offers beauty and hairdressing treatments for staff, students and members of the public.
LOCAL AREA
The college is a short bus ride from the main high street in Hornchurch, which has many clothing stores, a large supermarket and places to grab a bite to eat from fish shops to burger bars. Also on the Ardleigh Green road, a 5-minute walk from the college is a Tesco Express, fish and chip shop, sandwich shop and a pub serving food. There are two main bus routes running by or near the college.
Student Life
Havering College is ideally situated on the border between East London and Essex, a truly diverse county with an extreme range of landscape, with something to entertain everyone sport, nightlife, historic houses, museums, world famous gardens, vineyards and farms. Easily accessed by rail, tube and air, the College is only 20 min journey from the heart of one of the most thriving and buzzing cities in the world. London has millions of things to do and places to explore.
Havering College is based on two main campuses near Romford, Essex, both of which can easily be reached by public transport; it is within walking distance of Hornchurch centre. The college has safe parking facilities, security-guarded 24 hours a day.
Life in East London
Essex is a great county to live and study in. It combines a beautiful and varied countryside with the buzz of city living. Hornchurch is a good place to go for boutique shopping, and also has a large Sainsbury’s supermarket. Romford’s historic market (on Wednesdays and Saturdays) offers many bargains. There are large department stores and supermarkets and many small shops, selling clothes, music and DVDs, for instance, as well as many places to eat and drink after a long day shopping.
Romford has a large multi-screen cinema complex, showing the latest films, a sports gym with all the newest equipment, and an ice-rink for skating with friends or following the local ice-hockey team, the Romford Raiders. The Number 10 bowling alley has an arcade, pool tables and a bar.
