Welcome to Cairns

Cairns has a population of over 130,000 residents and is an international tourist destination offering a rich cultural and cosmopolitan lifestyle usually only available in capital cities.

Located within the tropics and on the north-eastern seaboard of Australia, the city is surrounded by picturesque hills and the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef and tropical rainforests.  Many attractions are within a 1-hour drive of the city.

Cairns is a multicultural city with well-established Asian, European, South American and indigenous communities who all add to the cultural diversity of the region.

Cairns is said to be one of the safest tropical destinations in the world, and is a wonderful environment for study.  It is a fast-growing, but small and friendly city.

There are excellent sporting facilities catering for every interest, including golf courses, indoor sports stadiums, gymnasiums, football fields, tennis courts, basketball and netball courts, ten-pin bowling, swimming pools and cricket.  Shopping, restaurants, clubs and other entertainment facilities are all world class.

Students can experience the unique attractions of this amazing region on their own or as group, visiting tropical rainforest, savannah lands and beautiful beaches.  Activities include swimming, snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting, canoeing, bungy jumping, horse riding, and many other outdoor activities.

Cairns - tourism destination

Cairns is said to be one of the safest tropical destinations in the world, and is a wonderful environment for study.  It is a fast-growing, yet small and friendly city with tourists arriving every day from all over Australia, and from all over the world.

The tourism and hospitality industries provide a range of facilities and activities to meet the needs of tourists.  International students find little difficulty finding part-time work within these industries, and a variety of positions are usually available.  Employers rely on international students to help fill job vacancies - and being able to speak other languages is a definite advantage.
