Cairns is said to be one of the safest tropical destinations in the world, and is a wonderful environment for study. It is a fast-growing, yet small and friendly city with tourists arriving every day from all over Australia, and from all over the world.
The tourism and hospitality industries provide a range of facilities and activities to meet the needs of tourists. International students find little difficulty finding part-time work within these industries, and a variety of positions are usually available. Employers rely on international students to help fill job vacancies - and being able to speak other languages is a definite advantage.
TNQ TAFE is able to arrange homestay accommodation to suit the needs of individual students. Share accommodation can also be arranged, and is often within walking distance of the Cairns campus.

Cairns is a multicultural city with well-established Asian, European, South American and indigenous communities who all add to the cultural diversity of the region.

There are excellent sporting facilities catering for every interest, including golf courses, indoor sports stadiums, gymnasiums, football fields, tennis courts, basketball and netball courts, ten-pin bowling, swimming pools and cricket. Shopping, restaurants, clubs and other entertainment facilities are all world class.

The Cairns campus of TNQ TAFE is accessible by public transport (bus), with the bus stopping right outside the campus. From the centre of the city to the campus will take 15-20 minutes by bus.
Most international students buy or hire bicycles, and a number of bicycle racks are provided in various areas of the campus. By bicycle from the centre of the city will take approximately 10 minutes. As Cairns is a small city and very flat, it is easy to move around the city by bicycle.
